We Are Photo Zoo Experience: Reptile Photography Adventure at Call of the Wild Zoo

At We Are Photo, we’re always looking for new and exciting ways to bring creativity, learning, and community together — and our recent photography experience at Call of the Wild Zoo was exactly that.

At the end of March, a group of our members came together for a unique reptile photography experience, offering an unforgettable opportunity to get up close with incredible animals while developing new skills behind the lens.

A Hands-On Reptile Photography Experience

The session began with the zoo keepers introducing us to a fascinating range of reptiles and insects. From snakes to unusual critters, members had the chance to photograph subjects they wouldn’t normally encounter — all in a safe, controlled environment.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for members to hold a snake, allowing for truly unique and personal images. These moments not only pushed people out of their comfort zones but also helped build confidence when photographing live subjects.

Getting Up Close in the Tropical House

We then moved into the zoo’s tropical house, where the experience became even more immersive. Members were given access inside an enclosure, allowing for close-up photography with a bearded dragon in a naturalistic setting.

This part of the session was perfect for practicing:

  • Close-up and detail shots

  • Working with natural light and humidity

  • Capturing texture, colour, and personality in animal photography

Being able to shoot at such close range gave everyone the chance to slow down, observe, and really think about composition and storytelling.

Exploring and Learning Together

After the structured experience, we spent time exploring the zoo as a group. This gave members the freedom to apply what they had learned, experiment with different techniques, and continue building their portfolios.

As always with We Are Photo, the day wasn’t just about photography — it was about connection, shared learning, and having fun. Members supported each other, shared ideas, and learned not only from the experience but from one another.

A Fun and Educational Day for All Levels

Whether attendees were beginners or more experienced photographers, the session offered something valuable for everyone. It was:

  • Educational – learning about the animals and how to photograph them

  • Interactive – hands-on opportunities with unique subjects

  • Creative – experimenting with new styles and techniques

  • Social – connecting with like-minded photographers

More Than Just a Photoshoot

This zoo experience is a perfect example of what We Are Photo is all about — creating opportunities that go beyond the ordinary. By combining real experiences, education, and community, we help our members grow in confidence and creativity.

We’re excited to host more unique photography experiences like this in the future, giving our community even more ways to learn, explore, and enjoy photography together.
