We Are Photo April Meet-Up at Hatters Farm Tulip Festival: A Creative Day Among the Tulips

Spring finally arrived in full colour at our April We Are Photo meet-up, as photographers from across Essex and Hertfordshire came together for an unforgettable day at the stunning tulip festival at Hatters Farm. With endless rows of vibrant blooms, golden sunshine, and a brilliant community atmosphere, this was one of our most inspiring photography meet-ups yet.

At We Are Photo, our mission has always been simple: bring fun back into photography while creating a welcoming space for creativity, learning, and connection. Whether you are picking up a camera for the first time or already shooting professionally, our monthly meet-ups are designed to help photographers grow in confidence, experiment creatively, and meet like-minded people who share a passion for photography.

A Perfect Spring Photography Location

Hatters Farm provided the perfect backdrop for our April photography walk. The tulip fields stretched across the landscape in every colour imaginable — deep reds, bright yellows, soft pinks, purples, and oranges creating beautiful leading lines and endless opportunities for creative compositions.

One of the things that makes We Are Photo events special is that everyone approaches the same location differently. Some members focused on dramatic landscapes, others searched for intimate floral details, while many experimented with perspective and storytelling through their images.

The atmosphere throughout the day was relaxed, supportive, and full of creativity. Members shared tips, helped each other with camera settings, and encouraged one another to try new ideas.

Our April Photography Challenges

To make the day even more interactive, members were given three creative photography challenges during the meet-up:

1. Landscape of the Tulip Fields

This challenge encouraged photographers to capture the scale and beauty of the farm itself. Members experimented with wide-angle compositions, symmetry, leading lines, and colour contrast to showcase the incredible landscape.

Some photographers used the rows of tulips to draw the viewer into the frame, while others waited patiently for the perfect moment when the light hit the fields just right. The results were absolutely stunning and showed just how differently photographers can interpret the same scene.

2. Close-Up Tulip Photography

The close-up challenge gave members the chance to slow down and focus on detail. From delicate petals and textures to water droplets and abstract compositions, photographers explored macro and close-focus techniques to highlight the beauty of individual flowers.

This challenge was particularly popular with beginners who wanted to practice depth of field and learn how small adjustments in aperture can completely transform an image.

3. Worm’s Eye View of the Tulips

Possibly the most fun challenge of the day, the worm’s eye view encouraged members to get low to the ground and photograph the tulips from a completely different perspective.

This challenge pushed everyone creatively and resulted in some truly unique images. Members experimented with framing the sky through the flowers, using dramatic angles, and creating immersive perspectives that made viewers feel as though they were standing among the tulips themselves.

It was fantastic to see so many photographers stepping outside their comfort zones and trying something new.

Incredible Images from Our Members

As always, our members completely exceeded expectations. The variety of photographs captured throughout the day was incredible, and every single person brought their own creative vision to the challenges.

One of the best parts of our community is seeing photographers grow in confidence month after month. Some members who joined We Are Photo as complete beginners are now producing beautiful, thoughtful images and developing their own photography style.

The supportive atmosphere means everyone feels comfortable sharing their work, asking questions, and celebrating each other’s progress.
