We Are Photo Bluebell Photography Meet-Up at The Woods
Sometimes the best photography meet-ups are the spontaneous ones, and our recent bluebell photography walk at Birchanger Woods was the perfect example of that.
With the bluebells blooming beautifully for only a short time each year, we decided to organise a last-minute meet-up so our members could make the most of this stunning spring display. Thankfully, a lovely group of photographers joined us, cameras in hand, ready to capture the magic of the woodland floor covered in vibrant bluebells.
At We Are Photo, we love creating relaxed and welcoming photography meet-ups where photographers of all abilities can get creative, practice new techniques, and simply enjoy photography together. The Birchanger Woods meet-up was full of laughter, creativity, and great conversation from start to finish.
A Beautiful Spring Photography Location
Birchanger Woods provided an incredible setting for woodland photography. The soft carpet of bluebells stretched through the trees, creating beautiful natural leading lines, dreamy colours, and endless photo opportunities.
The woodland light added an extra layer of creativity, with photographers experimenting with sun flare, depth of field, and framing through the trees. Some members focused on wide scenic shots showing the scale of the woodland, while others got low to capture intimate details of individual flowers.
It was one of those peaceful spring evenings where everyone could slow down, enjoy nature, and reconnect with their creativity.
The Funniest Photography Challenge Yet
As always, we included a fun photography challenge for the meet-up. This time, the challenge was simply:
“Best Bluebell”
As soon as we announced it, everyone burst out laughing because, of course, we were surrounded entirely by bluebells. It quickly became a running joke throughout the walk, with members jokingly asking if their latest photo was “bluebell enough.”
The light-hearted challenge perfectly summed up what We Are Photo is all about — having fun, not taking ourselves too seriously, and enjoying the creative process together.
Despite the simple theme, the results were fantastic. Every photographer approached the challenge differently, producing a variety of stunning images that showed just how creative photography can be, even when everyone is photographing the same subject.
Sharing Tips and Learning Together
One of the best parts of every We Are Photo event is the community aspect. Throughout the meet-up, members shared photography tips, camera settings, and creative ideas while helping each other experiment with different techniques.
At the end of the evening, everyone gathered together to chat, compare images, and swap editing and shooting advice. These conversations are such an important part of what makes our photography community special.
Whether someone is completely new to photography or has years of experience, there is always something new to learn from one another.
Why Our Photography Community Matters
Photography is about far more than just taking pictures. It is about creativity, connection, confidence, and shared experiences.
Our monthly photography meet-ups across Essex and Hertfordshire are designed to create a supportive environment where photographers can:

Meet like-minded people
Enjoy photography without pressure
We Are Photo has grown into a fantastic online and in-person photography community since launching in December 2022, and meet-ups like this remind us exactly why we started.

Everything we do is centred around creativity, growth, and making photography enjoyable for everyone.
Capturing the Bluebells Before They Fade
Bluebell season never lasts long, which made this spontaneous woodland photography meet-up even more special. We are so glad we managed to catch the flowers in full bloom and spend an evening surrounded by creativity, laughter, and great company.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at Birchanger Woods and made the evening so enjoyable. The photographs captured were beautiful, but the conversations, laughs, and shared love of photography made the event truly memorable.
We cannot wait for the next We Are Photo adventure.
