Valentine’s Engagement Photography Workshop in Essex – A Creative Day with We Are Photo
On 8th February, the We Are Photo community came together for a truly special photography experience — a Valentine’s themed engagement shoot workshop in Essex designed to inspire photographers of all levels.
Our goal at We Are Photo has always been simple: bring the fun back into photography while helping photographers grow their skills and confidence. This workshop was the perfect example of what happens when creativity, community, and learning come together.
With 12 photographers joining us, two wonderful real-life engaged couples, and a beautiful outdoor location filled with romantic backdrops, the day turned into something magical.
A Real Engagement Shoot Experience for Photographers
This Valentine’s photography workshop in Essex was designed to give photographers a realistic portrait photography experience.
Instead of working with staged models, we invited two genuinely engaged couples, allowing photographers to capture authentic connection, emotion, and natural moments — exactly what makes engagement and wedding photography so powerful.
Photographers had the opportunity to:
Practice engagement and couple photography techniques
Learn how to direct couples naturally
Capture real connection and emotion
Work with natural light in an outdoor environment
Build portfolio-worthy images
The relaxed environment meant photographers could experiment, ask questions, and try new creative approaches without pressure.
A Beautiful Outdoor Location in Essex
We were lucky to shoot in a stunning local gardens and park setting in Essex, which gave us a variety of incredible backdrops throughout the day.
Photographers explored different areas of the park including:
🌹 Rose gardens for romantic close-up portraits
🌿 Walled gardens that created beautiful textures and depth
🌳 Willow trees that framed intimate moments between the couples
🍃 Natural pathways and greenery for candid walking shots
The variety of locations meant photographers could practice composition, storytelling, and environmental portraits all in one session.
Keeping the Shoot Natural, Romantic and Playful
Because the workshop was themed around Valentine’s Day photography, we wanted the atmosphere to feel natural, joyful, and romantic rather than overly posed.
We incorporated roses into the shoot, adding a subtle romantic prop while keeping everything authentic and fun.
There were plenty of laughs as photographers captured:

This approach helped photographers learn how to create connection in their images, which is one of the most important skills in portrait and wedding photography.
